Further Thoughts...

When thinking about some of the more recent weeks of theory readings and lectures, I can't help but feel that the children's book "The Lorax" by Dr. Seuss should become required reading!
Although it does have a strong corporate greed message, I also feel that it has valuable messages for designers too.
- Everything we do has an impact.  Do we want this to be a good one or a bad one?
We must always have the environment and the impact that we are having on it in the forefront of our minds.

  1. Love it! There are useful, impactful messages that can be used everywhere, and I think that the more creative we can be in choosing our analogies, metaphors and characters to deliver them, the more chance we have of making a difference.

  2. I couldn't agree more ~ Whatever it takes to get the message across!

Although 'childish' maybe some people would be more inclined to read this instead of a 20+ page text heavy study or journal?

    * Another beauty of children's books is that the message has the potential to hit two generations at one; the parent reading to the child, and the child itself.

  3. Great example! Simple metaphors that are presented to children have the capacity for lifelong impact! I wish my parents had exposed me to more than just "The Biggest Cookie in the World" in which the cookie monster creates an enormous decadent cookie.. The visual representation of messages, like in The Lorax, allow people to SEE the ideas Dr Suess puts forward - we understand first what we can see. Visual communication has this role to play!
